About Miami International

Miami International is the main gateway between the United States and Latin America and the Caribbean, and it shows in the mix: 24.8 million international passengers against 30.5 million domestic in 2025, a far higher international share than almost any other large US airport. It is also the busiest airport in the country for total freight.
The terminal is one long curved building split into North, Central and South, with concourses lettered D through J. Airlines are spread along it, and the walk from one end to the other is substantial, so the concourse you depart from matters more here than at most airports.
Cruise traffic adds a second demand pattern on top of the flights. A large share of Miami parking is people leaving a car while they sail, which pushes stays longer than a typical domestic airport and makes the weekly rate the number that matters.
Getting to MIA

Reach the airport from SR-112 (Airport Expressway) from the north or SR-836 (Dolphin Expressway) from the east and west, then follow signs for your concourse rather than just the airport.
Metrorail's Orange Line and Tri-Rail both serve the Miami Intermodal Center next to the airport, connected to the terminal by the free MIA Mover.
Miami-Dade buses serve the Intermodal Center and the terminal's ground level, including routes to Miami Beach and downtown.
The MIA Mover is a free automated people mover running around the clock between the terminal and the Intermodal Center, where the rental cars and regional transport sit.
How parking works at Miami International
On-airport parking is in covered garages named after birds, running along the length of the terminal. Dolphin sits closest to Concourse D, Flamingo covers the Central Terminal concourses, and Ibis serves the far end. Park at the garage nearest your concourse or you will walk a long way with bags.
The garages are the convenient option and are priced as such. The airport also has longer-stay options away from the terminal, and the Intermodal Center is reached by the free MIA Mover.
Independent off-airport lots serve both the airport and the cruise terminals, and are usually the value option on the multi-week stays that Miami generates more of than most US airports.
Tips travelers wish they'd known
- Find out which concourse your airline uses before choosing a garage. The terminal is one long curve and the wrong garage can add fifteen minutes on foot.
- If you are parking for a cruise rather than a flight, price the whole stay rather than the daily rate. Off-airport operators generally win clearly at that length.
- Miami humidity and sun are hard on a car left for a fortnight. The on-airport garages are covered, which is worth weighing against a cheaper uncovered lot.
- International departures dominate the early evening bank here. Allow more than you would at a domestic-heavy airport if you are flying to Latin America or Europe.
